A trial run-through of the new voting process for Pima County’s elections was held on June 24. The mock election served as a test of the new voting system the Pima County Board of Supervisors approved in February. Participants of the mock election were given pretend voter identification cards to cast votes on ballots from 2018 as part of the practice run. The deadline to register for the Aug. 2 primary elections is approaching on Tuesday, July 5.
The Department of Justice is asking a judge to bar Arizona from enforcing the law, contending the state has no legal right to demand proof of citizenship from those who use a federal voter registration form.
While Friday's mock election experienced some technical hiccups, county elections officials said the issues with the new voting technology will be resolved by the primaries.
