Trees and power lines were torn down by strong winds and rain in southeast Tucson on Aug. 23. The Pima County Sheriff's Department shared a video on Aug. 22 from their helicopter, "Sheriff One," during a training flight near the Palisades Trail waterfalls, which is flowing in the Santa Catalina Mountains. The department warned hikers of possible flooding in the area following recent monsoon storms on social media, writing, "when in doubt, wait it out." Floodwaters rushed through the streets of Nogales, Sonora on Saturday, Aug. 13, resulting in three deaths, including two children from Casa Grande, Arizona.

The Tucson monsoon gave heavy rain and thunder and lightning storms on Aug. 8, 2022. More thunderstorms are expected today in southeast Arizona, according to the National Weather Service.

The Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility shared on Twitter Tuesday evening that South Harrison Road was closed at the Pantano Wash north of East Irvington Road due to rainwater runoff.

Tucson got a taste of this year's monsoon Saturday afternoon as storm clouds rolled in from the southwest. According to the National Weather Service, the 2022 monsoon is expected to bring above-average rainfall but most likely will not be as wet as last year's.
