Sabino Canyon Rescue
- Updated
On April 5th, at approximately 1450 hours, Search and Rescue Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to a reported stroke victim on Sabino Canyon Trail. Deputies deployed on foot up the trail and made contact with the victim. It was determined to utilize the Department helicopter and hoist the patient out for quicker medical attention. The patient was hoisted out using a "Screamer" suit, after which she was flown to a parking lot at the north end of Sabino Canyon where she was received by members of the Southern Arizona Rescue Association and transferred to an ambulance for transport to a local hospital for treatment. Time is of the essence with stroke victims with effective care recommended within three hours. With the quick actions of the Rescue Deputies in coordination with the helicopter, SARA volunteers and Rural Metro Fire Department, this patient received care in just under one hour.
