Garcia, a University of Arizona graduate who worked for the Tucson Citizen, also previously served as the director of communication and community impact at Morrison Institute for Public Policy at Arizona State University. During his 10 years there, he was founding director of the Morrison Institute Latino Public Policy Center.

University of Arizona College of Nursing Professor Marylyn Morris McEwen has been named associate dean for global nursing.
The position was created, in part, as a response to the universityโs and the UA Health Sciences strategic plans to extend the reach of UAโs nursing programs across international borders.
Global Nursing is slated to begin in fall 2020. McEwen is responsible for forging the bonds that lead to micro-campuses worldwide. Partnerships have been proposed for Mauritius; the Philippines; Cambodia; Lima, Peru; and India.
In response to global partnersโ requests, McEwen plans to begin with the entry-into-practice-level nursing program before extending into graduate- and doctoral-level programs. The college will assess the capacity and readiness for prospective partners to engage in the program, determining prerequisites that must be met by students seeking entry into the program, faculty capacity and assessment of local health-care systems to support clinical experiences.
The programs will be delivered in UA Global micro-campuses, with the goal to allow students to sit for state nursing board exams and potentially practice nursing in the United States.

Boykins is a long-time Tucson resident with experience and expertise in leading initiatives and organizations in the community.
He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization, fundraising and public relations.
Boykins has directed or lead several initiatives within the African-American community. He was key in keeping the Black Chamber of Commerce open for several years and increasing membership in the organization. He also served as the coordinator for the Southern Arizona Victory Together Martin Luther King Campaign, which was instrumental in the state of Arizona formally adopting the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. He was also the first African-American fashion buyer for a Federate Store (Levyโs Department Store) and was the director of Tucson Convention Center.

Sidy Dieng has been named assistant vice president of claims for Geicoโs regional operations in Tucson.
Dieng started his Geico career in 2003 as a sales agent at the Virginia Beach, Virginia, regional office. He made the Chairmanโs Club Gold Tier for exceptional sales in his first year.
After moving to the claims division, Dieng held examiner roles in each department of the division. He was promoted to supervisor in 2008 and then to manager of claims service representatives in 2011.
Two years later, he was promoted to manager of the telephone claims adjuster division at the Tucson regional office. In 2014, he began managing Arizona bodily injury claims operations as well. Dieng was promoted to the regionโs liability director in 2016.

Cance will oversee all clinical operations and research for the UA Cancer Center and will have a primary leadership role in the UA Cancer Centerโs September 2020 submission for renewal of its five-year Cancer Center Support Grant through the National Cancer Institute.

Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall announced she has appointed Jonathan Mosher as chief criminal deputy to lead the criminal prosecutions division in the Pima County Attorneyโs Office.
Mosher has been an attorney for 24 years and served as a deputy county attorney for the last 14 years (in the Pima County Attorneyโs Office and the Coconino County Attorneyโs Office), prosecuting some of Arizonaโs most serious crimes.
Most recently, Mosher served as the Pima County Attorneyโs Officeโs chief trial counsel in charge of overseeing all homicide cases and handling investigations of officer-involved shootings.

Joann Sweasy, Ph.D., an expert in DNA repair and genomic instability, joined the University of Arizona Cancer Center as associate director for basic sciences.
Sweasy also was appointed to a joint faculty position at Tucsonโs UA College of Medicine in the departments of cellular and molecular medicine and radiation oncology.
Her research focuses on genomic instability and how it leads to mutations that result in human diseases such as cancer.
Before joining the UA, Sweasy was associate director for basic sciences and co-leader of the Radiobiology and Radiotherapy Program at the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center at Yale University. She received her doctorate in microbiology at Rutgers University.

He trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the California NanoSystems Institute. He earned his bachelor of science in pharmacy from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine in China in 2010, followed by his doctorate in pharmaceutics from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014.

Elizabeth R. โBetsyโ Cantwell has been appointed as senior vice president for research and innovation for UA.
Cantwell will lead the UA Office of Research, Development and Innovation, which includes the Corporate Engagement Program, Tech Launch Arizona and the UA research parks.
She will be responsible for expanding the universityโs capacity for knowledge creation and discovery; integrating efforts by faculty, students, staff and executive leaders to move inventions and technologies to the marketplace; increasing the UAโs connectivity with external collaborators; spearheading industry and public partnerships; and increasing total research funding.
She joins the UA after serving as the CEO of Arizona State University Research Enterprise.
Cantwell moved to higher education after working for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where she was director for economic development and currently serves as a guest scientist.
Cantwell earned a masterโs in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania after earning a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, in mechanical engineering and a bachelor of arts in human behavior from the University of Chicago.
