- A clinical nurse manager at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson, Bohnenkamp received the 2016 Frontline Care Award from the Oncology Nursing Society at its national convention in San Antonio.
- A student in the M.D.-PhD program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Sandweiss received three awards for his research aimed at understanding how opioids activate the reward pathway leading to addiction, so an alternative non-addictive pain reliever can be developed. At the UA Graduate and Professional Student Councilβs 2016 Student Showcase, Sandweiss won first place, graduate research; BIO5 Innovator Award and the UA Presidentβs Award.

- Rachel Biggs, Paul Sheppard and William Hart:
- The three received professional recognition from the Southwestern Section of the Society of American Foresters. Biggs, forester for the Santa Catalina District of the Coronado National Forest, was named Outstanding Young Forester. Sheppard, professor of environmental forestry at the University of Arizona, was named Outstanding Forester. Hart, retired from the U.S. Forest Service, was elected as Fellow of the Society of American Foresters.
