Halma’s non-executive Chairman Paul Walker presents Alicat’s president David Lashbrook with the Halma Sector Company of the Year award.

  • Alan Stern:
  • Time magazine recently named Stern, the chief scientist of Tucson-based World View, on its list of the 100 Most Influential People. Stern ranked in the “pioneers” category, for leading the New Horizons spacecraft mission to Pluto. Time’s article said, “The spacecraft arrived in 2015, pouring back findings showing Pluto to be a more geologically dynamic place than we suspected. It’s Alan’s tenacity that we have to thank for that knowledge.”
  • Jim Slone:
  • Slone, a Tucson broadcaster since 1963 who owned Slone Broadcasting and country stations K-CUB and Kiim-FM, will be formally inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame at its induction dinner and awards ceremony on June 22. Slone, who retired in 2009, once owned nine stations, including stations in El Paso and Lubbock, Texas.
  • Dr. Jessica Moreno and Dr. Cecilia Rosales:
  • The two physicians at the University of Arizona Health Sciences were honored June 2 by Chicanos Por La Causa Inc. with its Cause for Change Award for “their commitment to ensuring that underserved families throughout Southern Arizona receive excellent health care.”

Moreno, an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the College of Medicine in Tucson, provides care to medically uninsured women at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center.

Rosales, assistant dean and professor at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health in Phoenix, woks to decrease cardiovascular disease and complications in the diabetic population of Mexico.

  • Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital:
  • The hospital received two awards from the American Heart Association for excellence in heart failure and stroke care, as well as an Honor Roll Elite designation for measures that ensure stroke patients arriving at St. Mary’s quickly receive FDA-approved “clot-busting” treatment for ischemic stroke.
  • Cecilia Mata:
  • Mata, founder and owner of Allsource Global Management in Sierra Vista, was honored as 2016 Minority-Owned Small Business Champion by the Arizona District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Allsource Global Management’s core customers are in the defense, counterterrorism and intelligence communities.
  • Eli Crane:
  • Crane, founder and CEO of Bottle Breacher in Tucson, was honored as 2016 Veteran Small Business Champion by the Arizona District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
  • Alicat Scientific:
  • The company was recognized by its parent company, Halma, receiving Sector Company of the Year and Growth from International Expansion awards. The Halma awards honor top-performing companies from within its global group of safety, health and environmental technology companies. This is the second year in a row that Alicat was named company of the year in Halma’s Environmental and Analysis Sector.
  • Jayna Owen:
  • Geico honored Owen, a Geico employee in Marana, with its Corporate Community Citizens Award for her volunteer work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson. In May 2015, the Tucson chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters named Owen Big Sister of the Year.
  • Dr. Deron Davenport:
  • Davenport, a Tucson dentist, joined the invitation-only American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, which is limited to 165 active members.
  • Quarles & Brady:
  • The national firm, which has a Tucson office, was recently named the “best big law firm for female attorneys” by Law360.
  • Matthew Bertsch:
  • Bertsch received the 2016 Rookie Preceptor of the Year Award from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. Bertsch, a 2012 graduate of the college, is director of pharmacy at Sun Life Family Health Center in Phoenix.
  • Rincon Country RV Resorts:
  • The two resorts recently won Park of the Year awards from the Arizona Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, after owners George and Sandra O’Leary invested more than $1 million in improvements to the parks four years ago.
