We are only as successful as the daily habits we establish.

Most business owners are running a mile a minute. Daily demands of running a business combined with family requirements can be exhausting, and reduce our ability to achieve desired results.

SCORE spoke with Jennifer Philips, CEO of Good to Glam, a professional women’s organization founded in Tucson, about advice on how business owners can manage it all, and have the life they dream of.

Jennifer’s passion is empowering women with life-changing ideas. Here is what we learned.

  • It all starts with setting some goals for yourself personally, professionally and for your family. Make sure the time and energy you invest is aligned toward achieving your goals. If an opportunity presents itself or someone asks you to do something not in line with your goals, learn to say no. Without a clear vision of what your goals are, it is easy to get distracted and waste valuable time.
  • On a weekly basis, compare your goals with the reality of the situation to see if you are on track for success. If you are not on track, identify some opportunities that will help you reach your objective. Make a list of the steps you need to take going forward and take action.
  • Once your goals are in place, take a look at the people you spend most of your time with. Are they supportive and inspiring? It is really important to surround yourself with the right people. If you have people in your life who are emotionally draining or hold you back, you will never achieve your full potential.
  • Finally, Philips recommends constant education on topics related to your goals. The more educated you are about all the options you have, the more likely you are to make better decisions. Making better decisions will produce better results, and may just change your life.

We are only as successful as our daily habits. We all have the same amount of time in a day. It’s how we use our time that counts.
