Ursula Nelson: Nelson, who is director of the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality, was presented with a special recognition award from the National Association of Clean Air Agencies, where she just finished serving as co-president. The award is for βoutstanding service as co-president of NACAA and unwavering dedication to improving air quality and public health.β
Gina Murphy-Darling: Also known as βMrs. Green,β Murphy-Darling was named 2016 recipient of the University of Arizona Alumni Governing Boardβs Professional Achievement Award. Founder and voice of the Mrs. Greenβs World Network, an internet-based podcast series, Murphy-Darling is a 1979 UA graduate in behavioral science.
AGM Container Controls and Simpleview are finalists for the Innovator of the Year Award for small companies in the Governorβs Celebration of Innovation annual awards, co-sponsored by the Arizona Technology Council and the Arizona Commerce Authority. The winners will be announced Nov. 10 at a gala in Phoenix.
Keith Maggert: A research scientist at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, Maggert has received a Transformative Research Award and a five-year, $1.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to fund his research program, in which he seeks to identify new and effective treatments for epigenetic diseases, such as cancer.
Patricia Ferrer: Ferrer, a Pima Community College fashion design student, received the Emerging Designer of the Year award from Fashion Business Inc. on Oct. 18. Earlier this year, Ferrer launched her PalmFreeΓ€SunGloves fashion line, produced at Arizona Apparel Manufacturing in Green Valley. Proceeds benefit a nonprofit mobile burn and wound care clinic in San CristΓ³bal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, where Ferrer, a physiciansβ assistant, volunteers.
Tom Moore: Moore, after-school program coordinator for City High School, was recognized as a finalist for the Outstanding Out-of-School Time Professional Award by the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence. Moore was the only Pima County finalist for 2016.
UA Eller Collegeβs Making Action Possible (MAP) Dashboard: The MAP Dashboard, which provides users with key metrics about the Tucson area, won another honor on Oct. 25, receiving the 2016 Award of Excellence in Websites from the Association from University Business and Economic Research.
Maracay Homes: Maracay, which has eight neighborhoods in the Tucson area, was recognized by the Salt River Project with its Champions of Energy Efficiency Award in the local homebuilder category.
