St. Andrew’s Bach Society kicks off its summer series next weekend and if you’re jonesing for classical music, this is the biggest and pretty much only game in town.
The group, under the tireless hand of Benjamin Nisbet, gets started with “Summer Schubertiade” at 2 p.m. June 5.
In case the name didn’t fully explain it, the Schubertiade is an afternoon of Schubert’s greatest hits: Impromptu No. 3 in G flat from his Four Impromptus for piano; his wonderful Quintet in A major (“The Trout”) for violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano; and his “Death and the Maiden” String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, featuring soprano Erika Burkhart.
Nisbet is bringing along a cast of mostly fellow Tucson Symphony Orchestra colleagues led by Concertmaster Lauren Roth for the “Trout.” Ian Jones, Phil Alejo, Melissa Hamilton and Michael Dauphinais will share the stage with Roth.
Bach Society concerts are held at Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St. Tickets are $12 adults, $6 students at standrewsbach.org
