Eight cool things to do in Tucson this weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 2)

Tucson's always-entertaining Pride weekend, celebrating the city's LGBT community, kicks off this Friday with a parade from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. along North Fourth Avenue's commercial district. It continues on Saturday with its Pride in the Park event, at Reid Park in midtown.
Music, comedy, food trucks and drinks will be included at the park festivities, from noon to sunset.
Tickets are $10 online and $12 at the gate. Events related to pride weekend are scheduled to take place around town.

If board games are your thing and playing such games for three days straight floats your boat, head to the Sheraton Hotel and Suites, 5151 E. Grant Road, this Friday for RinCon 16, Southern Arizona's premier gaming convention.
The RinCon website promises games of all types: role-playing, minis, card games and life-sized versions of classics such as Pyramids and Catan.
Play for hours, then buy the same games from on-site vendors so you can play some more at home.
Steampunk is the theme for this year's activities.

Take a tour of some of Tucson's best margarita maker's at the World Margarita Championship on Friday. The event is being held at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa, 3800 E. Sunrise Drive.
Margarita slingers from all over town will be on-hand to provide samples for guests and to see who rules the salted rim.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $55 in advance or $70 at the door. The Championship is a 21-and-older affair. Visit saaca.org for more information.

Tucson Hop Shop, the city's finest tasting room between Arizona Beer House on Kolb Road and Tap & Bottle near downtown, turns 1 this weekend with a full slate of activities, starting with some free birthday cake on Friday, accompanied by music from The Bennu and Woke Up Dead and food from Mr. Cookman's.
On Saturday, the Hop Shop will host a beer brunch with the Tumerico Tumerico food truck at 10 a.m. with live music from Sunny Italy and a DJ set from Wooden Tooth Records starting at 5 p.m. Tucson Fat Noodle will provide the eats.
The craft beer spot finishes things off with Sip and Sketch, live music with Norm Kibble and tasty treats from You Sly Dog.

Ever notice the dynamic modernist architecture in film director Alfred Hitchcock's movies?

Organizers with Tucson Modernism Week has recruited historian Christine Madrid Franch to talk about the filmmaker's use of buildings and structures in cinematic classics such as "North by Northwest," "Psycho" and "Vertigo."
The free lecture is part of a series of lectures and tours being held during Tucson Modernism Week, a celebration of all-things midcentury modern, particularly within the Tucson area.
Among the other activities: A vintage trailer show, tours and a midcentury marketplace.
The lecture begins at 6 p.m. at the Leo Rich Theater, 260 S. Church Ave. An RSVP is recommended. Get a full schedule of events on the Tucson Modernism Week website.

Ani DiFranco has produced plenty of albums on her Righteous Babe Records label over the years (nearly 20 studio projects in all), but her early stuff is some of her best stuff.
Go back in time when the singer-songwriter hits the Rialto stage this Saturday with a mix of old and new material. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $31-$41 through the Rialto box office, 740-1000.

The weather promises to be a little tamer at this year's Oro Valley Music Festival, Saturday-Sunday.
That's good news!
The fest has a solid lineup of pop-rock and country acts this year, including Billy Currington, Colbie Caillat, Daughtry and Howie Day. Not bad for the tiny town north of Tucson.
The two-day event takes place at the Golf Club at Vistoso, 955 W. Vistoso Highlands Drive. Tickets are $59 on Day 1, $45 on Day 2 and $85 for both days. Visit the event website for more information.

Galería Senita has tapped artists from around the world to create original renderings of classic Lotería cards in homage to the Mexican game of chance.
More than 40 artists, including Daniel Martin Diaz, Robin Westenhiser and Ron Kovatch will participate.
The Lotería gallery will be on display from Saturday to November 30, but an opening reception will be held on Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Arte de la Vida, 37 N. Tucson Blvd.
