Science is everywhere.
Thatβs the concept of a new weekly program for families offered at the Childrenβs Museum Tucson.
Family Brain Boost was designed to get parents and kids excited about the science that is all around them and to get them more comfortable with scientific method and language. There will be a hands-on component each week.
βThis is an important program because it recognizes that parents are their childrenβs first teachers. Adults can also get more comfortable with scientific concepts and language,β said Teresa Truelsen, the museumβs marketing director. βWhen you, as an adult, realize that even mixing and blowing bubbles is science, you can recognize that science is everywhere and begin to help your child learn to think critically and stretch problem-solving skills. It can also be a big help when parents are asked for help with homework. Everyone can enjoy the work, together.β
The new program takes place at 1 p.m. every Saturday and is included with museum admission.
Upcoming Family Brain Boost topics are:
Roller coasters and forces, Feb. 6; Engineering, Feb. 13; Catapults, Feb. 20; and Magnets and slime, Feb. 27.
In addition, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the museum is offering $3/30s, which is $3 admission on the 30th of every month.
