Every child should learn how to set the table. These are instructions for a basic table setting for a family dinner. Go ahead and use the family silver once in a while. Children need to learn to be gentle with these items.

For a basic table setting that any child can learn, remember "FORKS."

"F" is for the fork which goes first, on the left. "O" is for the plate because it is round, like the letter.

"R" is for remembering not to get distracted and finish the task Mom gave you. "K" is for the knife, which goes to the right of the plate with the cutting surface toward the plate.

"S" is for the spoon, which goes to the right of the knife.

The bread and butter plate is placed above the fork with the butter knife on the plate.

Drinks go above the knife and spoon. Place the coffee cup above the spoon for those who will have coffee.
