Jimmy John's will celebrate its newest Tucson area location β€” this one at 8260 N. Cortaro Road off Interstate 10 in Marana β€”Β with $1 sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11.

A couple months ago, we drove past the little corner spot in one of the plazas anchoring the big Walmart center off Interstate 10 and North Cortaro Road. The sports store that had been there about a year selling team hats, shirts and other memorabilia was gone and much to our surprise Jimmy John's sandwich shop had quietly moved in.

The Illinois-born sandwich restaurant joins two other sandwich-centric businesses in that retail corridor that has become fast-food/casual dining central for the Continental Ranch area of Marana.

And when Jimmy John's moves to your neighborhood, they open their arms without making us open our wallets. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, the Marana restaurant at 8260 N. Cortaro Road is offering a limited selection of its subs for $1. It's limited to one per person and you have to order in person.

Jimmy John's is located in a small space that started life years ago as a coffee shop and served two tours as a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop.
