Mother's Day is Sunday, May 8. Here are some hints you can drop your kids, or make a date with your mom.
1. Tohono Chul Park is free for moms and grandmas. Get there at 8 a.m. for a walk through the botanical gardens before it gets too hot out. Skip the line for brunch (it's pricey) and challenge your teen to an Instagram duel in the rambling exhibit of sculpture throughout the gardens. This is a great spot for some Christmas-card-worthy family photos too. Admission for non-mom adults is $10 and kids are $3. A lot of discounts are available too.
2. Grab takeout and a big blanket and head to the free Tucson Pops Orchestra concert at 7 p.m. at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center at Reid Park. Bring a board game for wiggly kids. Sometimes the show can be interactive. We've been to ones where there was a singalong and even one where a couple thousand Tucsonans got up and danced the Macarena.
3. Expecting? Try some prenatal yoga for $10 at 9 a.m. at the Yoga is Therapy studio, 2921 E. Fort Lowell, between Tucson Blvd and Country Club.
4. You've been chasing your kids for years, so why not put all that training to good use and celebrate a day early with the Marana Mother's Day 5K on Saturday. Moms get a rose at the finish. Register by Wednesday to get in for $20. Discounts for kids.
