The U-shaped Best home surrounds the patio which may be reached from the living room, the dining room which is shown here, or the study loggia. Also done in burnt adobe, the patio offers a view of the desert and mountains. The dining room table, which the Bests found in New Orleans, is of walnut with a parquet top. Cylindrical lights create a vertical effect in the long hallway running through the center of the house.

A raised open fireplace made of burnt adobe nearly fills one wall of the William Best Jr. home overlooking the Catalinas. Various shades of beige, brown and black were used in the room to coordinate with panels of walnut shown above the windows. Also tied in with the paneling are the adobe bricks which were washed to acquire the desirable hue.

While panels of walnut were used with the burnt adobe for the house's interior, redwood was used on the exterior. A fence of this wood surrounds the free-form swimming pool which was especially built with extra shallow water for the Bests' children. The pool enclosure may be reached either from the guest bedroom or the master bedroom.
