A new Pima County Superior Court judge brings a focus on juvenile law to the bench.

Gov. Doug Ducey appointed Pima County Court Commissioner Peter Hochuli as the replacement for retiring Judge Karen Adam, the governor’s office said in a news release Tuesday.

Hochuli earned a law degree from the University of Arizona after graduating from Northern Arizona University with a sociology degree in 1977. He entered private practice and worked in family and juvenile law for 15 years, the news release said.

He started working for the Pima County Attorney’s Office in 1996 and handled juvenile delinquency cases. Hochuli became a commissioner on the Pima County Superior Court in 2008.

Hochuli has served on the juvenile and probate benches, where he has handled delinquency and dependency cases, adoptions, drug court, appointments of guardians, and adult mental health hearings.

“Peter is a highly competent and qualified lawyer with notable experience in the juvenile law area,” Ducey said. “I am confident that Peter will continue to provide exemplary service to the people of Pima County.”
