A Sierra Vista man was arrested Friday and is facing homicide charges in the slaying of a 25-year-old man, police said.

The suspect, whose name was being withheld pending the investigation, was booked into the Cochise County jail on first-degree and second-degree homicide charges, according to a news release.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., Sierra Vista Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call at the Vista del Sierra apartment complex at 1555 E. Busby Drive.

The complex is across the street from Joyce Clark Middle School, and as a precautionary measure the school was placed on lockdown for about an hour, authorities said.

When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they found Arturo Vasquez Romero dead in the parking lot, states the release.

Vasquez Romero had been shot multiple times, authorities said.

Officers searched the area and found the gun in a field west of the complex. Witnesses gave police a description of the assailant, and officers found the man on Busby Drive where he was taken into custody, said authorities.
