Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a man at a carwash on Tucson’s south side.

A Pima County Sheriff’s deputy saw Jose Hernandez, 34, slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle in a car wash bay at 2600 West Valencia Road around 12:05 a.m. Tuesday.

The deputy called for medical assistance after knocking on the driver’s window and seeing he was in medical distress, the sheriff's department said in a news release Tuesday.Β

Drexel Heights Fire Department responded to the scene to treat Hernandez, but he became aggressive with the paramedics and ran towards the road. Deputies detained Hernandez again and he collapsed as paramedics examined him.

He was pronounced dead after being transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, the sheriff's department said in the news release.Β
