A man was struck and killed by an out-of-control car Wednesday in a crash on Tucson's east side in which the driver also died, police said.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. at East Broadway and North Wilmot Road when a speeding eastbound car clipped a stopped vehicle, left the road and struck Richard Paul Edis, Jr., 34, who sitting nearby, Tucson police said in a news release.

The car, a 2017 Volkswagen Passat, then continued across a parking lot and came to a stop when it struck a tree. The driver, James Alexander Yates, 71, died later at the hospital.

The investigation continues.
