A 72-year-old woman was killed Friday in a two-vehicle crash on Tucson's southeast side, police said.

Peggy Jean Johns was a passenger in a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu about 4 p.m. when it collided with a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser at East Golf Links and South Craycroft roads, Tucson police said Saturday in a news release.

Johns died a short time after she and the unidentified driver were taken to the hospital after the wreck, the release said.

Police say the Chevrolet was making a left onto Craycroft from eastbound Golf Links when it collided with the westbound Toyota.

None of the drivers was impaired, and everyone in the crash was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The crash is still being investigated, but failure to yield by the Chevrolet is the primary contributing factor in the crash, the release said.
