Tucson homicide detectives are investigating an apparent murder-suicide on Tucson's east side, according to authorities.
Sgt. Pete Dugan, the department's information officer, said the incident took place at Canyon Creek Apartments on 160 North Pantano Road on Saturday morning.
Officers responded to emergency calls at 8:20 a.m., about a woman in her 50s found deceased in an apartment from apparent gun shot trauma.
Family members of the woman found her when visiting the apartment and made the call to authorities, Dugan said.
Before officers arrived, another emergency call from the family was placed after the deceased woman's boyfriend was seen unresponsive in his vehicle.
The man, in his late 40s, was pronounced dead from obvious gun shot trauma. Detectives determined it was due to a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
Detectives said it appears that the woman was shot by her boyfriend before he took his own life, according to a department press release.Â
Police later identified the couple as 52-year-old Yolanda Eberts and 48-year-old Bryant Smith. They lived together in the apartment complex.
Detectives request that anyone with information about the incident call 88-CRIME. Callers can remain anonymous.
