A man walking on the sidewalk was struck and killed early Saturday on Tucsonβs southwest side by a car that crossed a median and traffic lanes, police said.
The unidentified man was walking north on South Mission Road, near West Irvington Road, about 4 a.m. when a 1996 Honda Civic that was headed south hit and went over a median, crossed the northbound lanes and struck him on the sidewalk, Tucson police said Monday in a news release.
The driver of the Honda was gone by the time police arrived at the crash scene, the release said.
Officers soon found the unidentified teen driver at his nearby home, the release said.
The pedestrianβs condition was initially said to be life-threatening, but hospital officials later said that was no longer the case because the man had improved. Later, the man died, police said in the release.
In the meantime, the teen had been cited and released to his parents. Charges could be altered, the release said, now that the pedestrian has died, the release said.
