An 11-year-old girl was killed Friday when she was struck by a pickup truck while riding a scooter on a neighborhood street on Tucson's southwest side, authorities say.
About 1:30 p.m. the unidentified girl was struck as she rode a scooter on West Corte de Maizal, a neighborhood street near West Irvington Road and South Camino de Oeste, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
The girl was not wearing a helmet. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The unidentified driver of the pickup truck stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with the investigation, the release said.
The investigation continues.
