A semi-truck driver suffered serious injuries after his rig was hit by a train in Marana Tuesday afternoon, police say.
The collision occurred just after 3:30 p.m. when the semi-truck was hit on a railroad crossing at Interstate 10 and West Tangerine Road, a spokeswoman for the Marana Police Department said Wednesday.
The driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of Wednesday morning, however, his condition was still serious but upgraded from the initial assessment, police said.
The collision closed traffic at the railroad crossing for most of the evening.
None of the train crew was injured in the crash, a spokeswoman for Union Pacific said Wednesday.
