A 63-year-old Tucson woman was stuck and killed when she ran into traffic on westbound Interstate-10 in Marana Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The crash happened about 1:30 p.m. and closed lanes of the interstate for hours, said Bart Graves, a state Department of Public Safety spokesman.
The unidentified woman was struck by a commercial vehicle when witnesses told investigators she ran onto the traffic lanes from a parked vehicle, Graves said.
A teen girl was struck and killed earlier this month running across the interstate about a mile from Thursday's crash.
Yvanna Vejar, 14, died early Sept. 9. Family members said she and two friends were running across I-10 after getting late-night snacks.
Close to 43,000 people died in a traffic crash in 2021, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That's up from about 39,000 deaths in 2020.
