Eegee's aficionados no longer have to suffer withdrawal symptoms.
On Thursday for several hours, customers who went to buy the frozen drink at the fast-food restaurants in Tucson and Casa Grande drove away without it.
The supplies ran out at 22 restaurants in Tucson, and at one restaurant in Casa Grande because a bearing on one of two machines broke, said Robert Jensen, president of the company.
So, production of the frozen drink at the main plant at 3360 E. Ajo Way was done on one machine, and stored product was readied to be taken to the restaurants. Four truck drivers began delivering the icy drink to the eateries, which were all expected to receive the drink by 5 p.m., Jensen said.
"We have been in business for 44 years. This has never happened. I am happy it happened for a few hours rather than a few days," said Jensen of experiencing an empty stock of the frozen drink.
Meanwhile, if a customer did not get an Eegee's when ordered, then they were given any size soda or tea for free, Jensen said.
"We love our customers. We try to take care of our customers the best that we can," he said.
At this time of year, the company sells about 4,500 gallons of the frozen drink a day, Jensen said.
A new part for the broken machine is being shipped from Philadelphia, and is expected to arrive by Saturday, Jensen said.Â
