A 59-year-old pedestrian was killed Friday evening while crossing a street west of downtown in an unmarked crosswalk, Tucson police said.
The collision between the pedestrian and a car at West St. Mary's Road and North Shawnee Avenue, east of North Silverbell Road, was reported about 10 p.m.
Tucson Fire Department personnel pronounced the pedestrian, Reyes Dorame, deceased at the scene.
Police said Dorame was attempting to cross St. Maryโs Road at North Shawnee when he was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet Camaro that had been traveling in the curb lane.
The Camaroโs driver, a 23-year-old man, was determined not to be impaired at the time of the collision and was fully cooperating with the investigation, the Tucson Police Department said in a news release Saturday. No citations were issued.ย
Investigators reported finding illegal narcotics in Dorameโs possession, but said any impairment will be determined through medical records, police said in the release.
Dorameโs death is the cityโs 17th pedestrian death of the year, TPD records show.
