STK police car

Charges have been filed against the driver in a crash in March that killed a Tucson police officer, officials say.

Nicholas William Skitzki, 20, was cited on suspicion of a moving violation that caused serious injury or death, a misdemeanor, Tucson police said Wednesday.

Skitzki also received two civil infractions: failure to yield while making a left; and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Skitzki was cited and released on April 24, police said.

Officer Adam Buckner, 31, died in the March 31 crash that occurred while he was answering a call near the University of Arizona campus.

Buckner was going through the intersection of North Campbell Avenue and East Sixth Street on a green light when a sedan making a turn failed to yield to the marked patrol car’s sirens and lights, police have said.

Buckner was responding to a report of a man breaking windows at a business in the area.

Buckner died at the hospital shortly after the wreck.
