Merchants in the greater downtown area are accepting a discount card on purchases of food, drinks, clothing and more.

When the heat is sizzling like this, it’s time for the “Summer in the City” discount card.

Here are things to know about the annual card, which is available now:

  • More than 130 local businesses in the greater downtown area are offering discounts to cardholders on purchases of food, drinks, clothing, retail, books, gifts, shows, lodging and tours.
  • The discounts are valid during June, July and August in six downtown districts.
  • There are no limits on the number of times you can use the card.
  • You can hop on the modern streetcar, which connects five of the six participating districts: University of Arizona, Main Gate Square, North Fourth Avenue, Downtown Tucson and Mercado San Agustín.
  • The sixth district is The Sunshine Mile on Broadway between Euclid and Country Club.
  • The card costs $5, or $9 for two or $20 for five, with several other discount packages available. The biggest — $300 for 100 cards — is billed as a “corporate appreciation package.”
  • There’s also an option for nonprofit organizations to sell the cards as a fundraiser.
