A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with a DUI-related weekend wreck in which Tucson police say he was driving more than 100 miles per hour.
About 7 a.m. Saturday, X’Avion Jordan was speeding west on Aviation Parkway when he struck an eastbound car turning left onto South Country Club Road, Tucson police said Sunday in a news release.
Police said Jordan "was traveling at speeds of more than twice the posted 55-mile-per-hour speed limit just before the collision," the release said.
In the crash, Jon David LaBeau, 37, was turning left on a green light — but without the turn arrow — when the Ford Five Hundred he was driving was struck by Jordan, who was driving a Chevrolet Impala, the release said.
LaBeau died at the crash scene.
Jordan was taken to the hospital with injuries deemed not life-threatening. He was later determined to be impaired at the time of the crash, the release said.
Jordan was arrested and booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, the release said.
