A Hereford woman has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after several dogs were found in a trailer left along a road, authorities say.

The trailer was found in the afternoon of June 10 by Cochise County deputies who were called because it was impeding traffic, the department said Tuesday in a news release.

Multiple dogs were found inside the β€œbumper pull trailer” which lacked adequate air circulation or water, the department said on social media.

While deputies were on scene, a man approached and confirmed the trailer belonged to Anna Fuller, 27. She also owned nine of the 10 dogs inside, the release said.

The man was allowed to take his dog. The other animals, seven 3-week-old puppies and two adult dogs, were taken to the Douglas animal shelter, the release said.

The trailer was described by deputies as being excessively hot and it was unlikely the dogs would have survived much longer, the release said.

Fuller was taken into custody on June 21 and charged with 40 felony counts of animal cruelty. She remained in the Cochise County jail on a $10,000 bond, the release said.
