An armed man was shot and killed early Saturday by a deputy investigating a domestic violence-related call in Corona de Tucson, authorities say.

The incident started about 11:40 p.m. Friday night when deputies went to a home in the 400 block of South Stone Bench Road for a report of gunfire, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said Saturday in a news release.

Deputies at the scene were told a 47-year-old man had fired a round outside during a domestic dispute, the release said. No one was injured.

Police searched the neighborhood and found a man nearby. The man was shot when he pulled a gun on a deputy who told him to stop, the release said.

Deputies immediately began administering life-saving measures, but the man was declared dead about 12:30 a.m., the release said.

No further details were immediately released Saturday morning.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, the multi-agency group that investigates local officer-involved shootings, was activated. The Tucson Police Department has been assigned to be the primary agency for the criminal investigation.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department will conduct a separate internal investigation.
