Tucson police officers shot and wounded a suspect who pulled a gun as they chased and caught up to him Friday night, the Police Department reports.

Uniformed officers found a stolen vehicle in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue at about 6:45 p.m. Friday. Suspects from the vehicle ran away from them, the Tucson Police Department said in a news release.

"As officers caught up to one of the suspects, the suspect produced a firearm which resulted in an officer-involved shooting," the release said. Officers immediately rendered first aid and the Tucson Fire Department arrived and took the injured man to a hospital.

"No officers or other community members were injured in this incident," the release said, providing no other details of the shooting.

As is standard practice when officers are involved in a shooting, the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team has been activated to handle the criminal investigation. The University of Arizona Police Department is the lead investigating agency for this incident. The Tucson Police Department will conduct a separate investigation to determine if any policy violations occurred. Also under standard procedure, all findings will be forwarded to the Pima County Attorney's Office for review.
