A 38-year-old Rio Rico was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of drug trafficking, authorities say.
Peter Vega, the leader of a drug trafficking organization which distributed methamphetamine and fentanyl across the U.S., pleaded guilty in March to several drug charges , the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona said.
Vega, who was found in Mexico in January 2023 where he fled after being indicted. On June 11, U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins sentenced Vega to 180 months in prison plus five of supervised release, the news release said.
Vega mailed methamphetamine shipments from Arizona to other parts of the U.S. and laundered drug proceeds by “funneling money” using numerous third-party bank accounts, the news release said.
