A Pima County Sheriff's Department deputy holds his rifle after shooting a man who was carrying a knife and was fighting with a client after reportedly forcing his way into a treatment center in Catalina in April.

Authorities have released video of a deadly shooting by a deputy during a violent break-in in April at a Catalina treatment center.

The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. April 19 in the community north of Tucson.

A caller to 911 said a man armed with a knife kicked in the center's door and was keeping a man "hostage" outside, according to the video report from the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team.

Surveillance video shows the man yelling "Where's my brother," while kicking down the door. Later, he is seen slashing the tires of a motorcycle parked outside before toppling it over.

Deputy Benjamin Bateman, who has been with the department for a little more than a year, arrived to find two men fighting. A man armed with a knife had his arms around the neck of the unarmed man, the report says. Bateman fired his rifle after the man with the knife ignored his commands to stop the brawl, then raised the knife toward the other man, the report says.

Joseph Mudd III, 44, was declared dead at the scene. The man who was attacked was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, the report says.

The incident is still being investigated by the PRCIT, which consists of several local law enforcement agencies and investigates shootings that involve officers here.

The completed investigation will be sent to the Pima County Attorney's Office, which is standard procedure.
