Authorities are searching for a man they say tried to kidnap a 9-year-old boy Tuesday evening on the northwest side of town.

At about 6 p.m., Pima County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 1200 block of West San Lucas Drive, near West Orange Grove Road and North La Canada Drive, for reports of an attempted kidnapping, department spokesman Ryan Inglett wrote in a news release.

The boy told deputies that he was taking out the recycling when a man stopped in front of the house and said, "hey you're coming with me for the night." When the man began to step out of his vehicle, the boy ran inside and told his mother what had occurred, Inglett said.

Detectives are asking for the public's assistance in locating the suspect, who had medium length hair, possible gauged ear piercings and was driving an unknown vehicle.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's identity is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
