A man accused of striking a bicyclist Monday is facing hit-and-run causing serious injury, driving under the influence and aggravated assault charges, authorities said.

Timothy Candler, 34, was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of the charges, said Deputy Cody Gress, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman Tuesday.

The bicyclist, who is expected to suffer from permanent injuries, was struck on Tucson's northeast side on North Catalina Highway near East Fort Lowell Road.

A passerby reported the hit-and-run shortly before 3 p.m. The car's driver was taken into custody during a traffic stop near the crash site, Gress said.

The bicyclist was taken to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.
