Tucson authorities have arrested a man in connection with the shooting death of a family member Monday afternoon on Tucson's south side.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., officers went to a home in the 5200 block of South Fletcher Avenue for reports of a shooting and found 35-year-old Eulises Echevarria with obvious signs of gunshot trauma, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Tucson firefighters arrived at the home, near Irvington Road and Sixth Avenue, and rendered first aid, but Echevarria was pronounced deceased shortly after their arrival, Dugan said.

Homicide detectives continued the investigation and learned that Echevarria was an in-law of the suspect, who went to visit Echevarria at his home, along with another family member. Within moments of their arrival, shots were fired and the suspect fled the scene alone in a car, Dugan said.

Detectives tracked down a possible address in Pima County for the suspect, and sheriff's deputies went to the home in the 10000 block of South Summit Creek, arresting the man without incident.

The suspect's name is being withheld while detectives continue the investigation, but additional details will be released when they become available, Dugan said.
