Wagons West Mural

The mural at Wagons West RV Park features scenes of everyday life there. The project was spearheaded by Vonna Marcus, a winter visitor and South Dakota native.

Winning designs for a city mural project to beautify downtown will be shown to the public Tuesday, April 26.

The free event for all ages is from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave., in the lower-level meeting room. Artists working on mural teams will create their works starting May 2 through June 6, according to a news release. The following artists will be working:

  • at 9 N. Scott Ave.
  • Niki Glen
  • at the west corner of North Fifth Avenue and Toole Avenue.
  • Pete Goldlust
  • at Scrappy’s at 213 E. Broadway.
  • Jessica Gonzales
  • at Wig-O-Rama at 98 E. Congress St.
  • Rocky Martinez
  • at Benjamin Plumbing Supply at 440 N. Seventh Ave.
  • Luis Mena
  • at CenturyLink at 142 E. Pennington St.
  • Rachel Slick
  • ,
  • Tim Schirack
  • and
  • Alexandra Gjurasic
  • at Café 54 at 54 E. Pennington St.

The selection committee included Julie Sasse, chief curator for the Tucson Museum of Art; Ceci Garcia and Susan Silverman of the Tucson Pima Arts Council Public Art Committee; Mary Lou Thompson of Tierra Antigua Realty; and Brandi Haga-Blackman of the Downtown Tucson Partnership.

The Tucson Arts Brigade manages the city’s mural program. It is funded by the Tohono O’odham Nation, Friends of Tucson Arts Brigade and Visit Tucson.
