Nine students representing Tucson Unified School District high schools were recently recognized as Young Women of Impact by the University of Arizona.
The initiative celebrates high school students who are recognized by school leaders, teachers and counselors for impacting their campus; embracing educational opportunities; taking on leadership roles; and modeling the core values of integrity, compassion, exploration, adaptation, inclusion and determination.
Thirty students from public high schools across Southern Arizona were recognized. The nine TUSD honorees are: Esmeralda Almazan, Pueblo; Ailanie Figueroa, Tucson High; Nevaeh Gamboa, University High; Yasmina Jackson, Rincon; Rose Jacobo Ojeda, Palo Verde; Jasmine Jesson, Santa Rita; MariaLuz Lopez Varela, Cholla; Trivene Magar, Catalina; and Joselyn Pruitt, Sabino.
The Young Women of Impact initiative is an offshoot of the annual Women of Impact campaign that honors women faculty and staff at the UA. It is hosted by the UAâs Office of Research, Innovation & Impact.
