A freeze watch for much of Southeast Arizona will be in effect late Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Tucson.
The low temperature for Tucson will be 32 degrees; Nogales, 31 degrees; Sierra Vista, 28 degrees; Safford, 26 degrees; and Willcox, 18 degrees.
The weather service said temperatures are expected to drop around midnight Thursday and will reach their lowest point around sunrise Friday morning.
The Salvation Army has initiated Operation Deep Freeze tonight and will accept anyone into its shelter because of the expected freezing overnight temperatures.
The agency said anytime the temperature drops to 35 degrees or colder, or 40 degrees with precipitation, it will provide overnight accommodations.
The shelter at 1002 N. Main Ave. will accept anyone up until 9 p.m.
Donations of coats, blankets, gloves, socks and sweater are needed to help the homeless, the agency said Thursday. Items can be donated at the Hospitality House, 1002 N. Main Ave., any Naughton's Plumbing and Vantage Bowling Centers.
