Border Patrol agents at the Nogales station arrested a Honduran man Wednesday morning, who was previously convicted of sexual battery, officials said.
Miguel Ayala-Escoto, 26, was apprehended while illegally re-entering the United States west of Nogales, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.
After his arrest, agents brought Ayala-Escoto to the Nogales station for processing, and a criminal records check revealed the 2017 sexual battery conviction out of Robertson County, Tennessee, the release said.
The records check showed that Ayala-Escoto had been removed from the United States in early 2018, according to the release.
Ayala-Escoto is facing prosecution for immigration violations that include illegal re-entry as a felon, the release said.
