The Pacific storm drenching Southern Arizona has brought record rainfall to Tucson.

The National Weather Service said .87 of an inch of rain had fallen at the Tucson airport as of 6 p.m., breaking the one-day total for Jan. 30 of .83 of an inch, which was set in 1983.

A small-stream flood warning is in effect for northeastern Pima County because of heavy rain that has fallen in the Catalina and Rincon Mountains today.

More than 5 inches of rain has been reported on Mount Lemmon, according to Pima County Flood Control District gauges. Nearly 6 inches of rain has fallen in the northern end of the Rincon Mountains in the last 24 hours, according to the rain gauges.

The flood warning is in effect until 3:45 a.m. Saturday.

Heavy runoff is expect in the Sabino, Tanque Verde and Bear Creek basins because of the rain. The stream rise is expected to be gradual, but residents in those areas should be aware of the flooding threat, according to the National Weather Service.

In the Tucson metro area, totals ranging up to about an inch have fallen in 24 hours. Some areas of Tucson near the Catalinas have seen nearly 2 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

The highway up to Mount Lemmon was closed Friday night to all except residents and employees who live on the mountain or work there. Chains and four-wheel drives were required, and motorists were cautioned to watch for ice and snow, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Motorists also were warned about low visibility and loose rocks in Gates Pass.

The showers are expected to last through at least Saturday evening. Some patchy fog is forecast for early Saturday, the weather service said. It should begin clearing by Sunday afternoon.

Here are some road closures in Pima County today:

Wentworth Road at Tanque Verde Creek

Tanque Verde Loop Road at Tanque Verde Creek
