Several route changes have been recommended for the Sun Shuttle in Marana, Oro Valley and Green Valley/Sahuarita.

Four open houses are scheduled for early September to discuss five recommended route changes for the Sun Shuttle service.

Representatives from the Regional Transportation Authority, Sun Shuttle and Sun Tran will be at the meetings to discuss the changes.

The changes, which Sun Tran said are designed to increase efficiency, cover routes in Marana, Oro Valley and Green Valley/Sahuarita.

The recommended changes are:

Marana
  • Route 411 — Discontinue this route because of low ridership.
  • Route 412 — Continue most of this route but reroute at West Linda Vista Boulevard to the Tucson Premium Outlets mall at Twin Peaks Road and Interstate 10. This will eliminate stops at North Thornydale and West Tangerine roads.
  • Route 413 — Continue this route but create a new stop at the outlet mall. Southbound passengers heading to Regency Plaza can transfer to Route 412. Route 413 would continue to the Arizona Pavilions shopping area.
Green Valley/Sahuarita
  • Route 421 — It is recommended to discontinue the stop at Casa Community Center. The southernmost stop would be at the Walmart off South Nogales Highway. The Dial-a-Ride service will still be available from the discontinued stops to Walmart at the same $1.75 fare.
Oro Valley
  • Route 401 — Move the stops on Magee Road and at Canyon del Oro High School out to North Oracle Road. Travel will remain on Oracle between Magee and West Calle Concordia. It is also recommended to discontinue Saturday service on this route because of low ridership.

Here are the scheduled open houses:

  • Marana Municipal Complex, 11555 W. Civic Drive, from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 5. (Routes 412, 413)
  • Wheeler Taft Abbett Sr. Library, 7800 N. Schisler Drive, Marana, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 7. (Route 411)
  • Casa Community Center, 780 S. Park Centre Ave., Green Valley, from 10-11 a.m. Sept. 11. (Route 421)
  • Holiday Inn Express, 11075 N. Oracle Road, Oro Valley, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 12. (Route 401)

If you cannot attend any of these meetings, you can email comments through Sept. 17 to joanna.grassinger@tucsonaz.gov or call 792-9222. You can also mail comments to Sun Tran, 3920 N. Sun Tran Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85705.
