Tucson firefighters were fighting a large brush fire Wednesday on Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery property, authorities said.

The cemetery is at 3015 N. Oracle Road, just north of West Miracle Mile.

The fire broke out Nov. 8 before 5 p.m. and multiple 911-callers reported it. The blaze is burning a pile of brush, tree branches and debris, said Capt. Andy Skaggs of the Tucson Fire Department.

No structures are in danger, said Skaggs, adding that the fire is burning in the middle of vacant land.

Sixteen firefighters and four engines are on scene and the bulk of the blaze is contained. Crews are working hotspots, said Skaggs, shortly before 6 p.m.

It is not known how the fire began, and fire investigators will work to determine the cause, Skaggs said.
