After his mother, Judith Gold, passed away this week at 76 on the eve of the 99th Fiesta de Los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo, sports writer Jon Gold reflects on his mom's joy experiencing the Southern Arizona mainstay event by his side back in 2015. Thanks to longtime Tucson Rodeo head Gary Williams, 'six decades after her first rodeo, I took her to her last.'
“I don’t do rodeos anymore,” admitted Alan Sanchez, owner of Alan's Lids, who is back at Tucson Rodeo in 2024 as an out-of-town vendor visiting Southern Arizona for the nine-day event. “But Tucson has a special plate in my heart. The Arizona rodeo team, a club sport with UA Campus Recreation, is entering its 86th year at the UA.
