A woman who was in a two-vehicle crash and seriously injured a week ago on Tucson's south side died Oct. 11.

Amelia Gardner, 72, died of injuries she suffered in the crash Oct. 7 at the intersection of South Midvale Park Road and South Oak Tree Drive, said Officer Chris Hawkins, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m.

The investigation revealed that Gardner was driving a blue Chevrolet Cobalt and was traveling west on Oak Tree when she made a southbound turn onto Midvale Park in front of a tan Ford Explorer, causing the crash in the intersection, said Hawkins.

Paramedics took Gardner to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson where she died.

Since January, there have been 51 traffic fatalities in the city, compared to 43 at this time last year, police data shows.
