Re: the Aug. 11 column "Media determined to misinterpret Trump's remarks."
John Lott's column was a nice try at creatively interpreting Trumpโs remarks, but itโs obvious to everyone that Trump was making a joke about gun enthusiasts possibly killing liberal judges. Itโs the only thing he could have meant and itโs what he did mean.
Equally interesting is the rather dismissive phrase โSecond Amendment people.โ Thatโs what gun rights advocates are for Trump: โSecond Amendment people.โ He doesnโt care about the amendment, the Constitution or whether families can defend themselves. The only thing that really interests him about โSecond Amendment peopleโ is that a lot of them show up to his rallies and respond enthusiastically to his style of aggressive remarks.
If Trump wins, donโt expect any big push on gun rights in the courts. His primary concern will be to pack the courts with judges who will favor his own interests in the numerous legal actions he is constantly involved in.
