Re: the June 8 column "Against odds, state keeps fighting O'odham casino."

Kudos to Tim Steller for his reporting on the Tohono O'odham casino issue with the state of Arizona. I'm no lawyer, but here's my take. The state is pursuing the Tohono O'odham Nation for allegedly violating the 2002 compact even after court rulings against it.

It seems the state has a clear vision of what to do when they feel a law has been broken. However, when the state breaks a law (reference Prop. 301 to provide school funding) it's okay. After being sued, Gov. Doug Ducey's way out is to get Prop. 123 passed, so as to sidestep the issue that he and former Gov. Jan Brewer broke the law. Tim Steller clearly pointed out on which side of the fence each of the litigants fall on. The courts have ruled that Gov. Ducey should stay on his side of the fence, looking in.
