Re: the Aug. 11 column "Media determined to misinterpret Trump's remarks."

John Lott's column was a nice try at creatively interpreting Trump’s remarks, but it’s obvious to everyone that Trump was making a joke about gun enthusiasts possibly killing liberal judges. It’s the only thing he could have meant and it’s what he did mean.

Equally interesting is the rather dismissive phrase β€œSecond Amendment people.” That’s what gun rights advocates are for Trump: β€œSecond Amendment people.” He doesn’t care about the amendment, the Constitution or whether families can defend themselves. The only thing that really interests him about β€œSecond Amendment people” is that a lot of them show up to his rallies and respond enthusiastically to his style of aggressive remarks.

If Trump wins, don’t expect any big push on gun rights in the courts. His primary concern will be to pack the courts with judges who will favor his own interests in the numerous legal actions he is constantly involved in.
